Visa Issues Force Russian Archers to Miss World Cup Event

Російські лучники не змогли взяти участь у світовому турнірі через проблеми з візами.

Russian Archers Absent from World Cup

Russian archers will miss the upcoming World Cup stage in Spain due to difficulties obtaining Schengen visas. Zorigto Mankhanov, president of the Russian Archery Federation, confirmed the situation, stating:

“Our athletes are unable to travel to the World Cup stage in Madrid because of problems with securing Schengen entry visas.”
A delegation of 13 athletes and 6 coaches had been scheduled to depart from Russia for Spain. This setback highlights the broader challenges Russian sportspeople face amid ongoing international tensions.

Two Russian Invaders with Sports Backgrounds Killed

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have eliminated two Russian invaders who previously had careers in sports. One of them, 46-year-old Georgy Kamalov, played for the team Era Vladivostok from 2003 to 2011. After retiring due to injury, he moved into coaching, first within the Era system and later with the football club Anri. Under his leadership, Anri earned a spot in the Russian Cup.

  • The second eliminated invader was Chingiz Dodiev, born on December 1, 1993, in the village of Baragkhan, Kurumkan District, Republic of Buryatia. Dodiev had achievements in hand-to-hand combat and universal karate.
  • He was a Master of Sports in hand-to-hand combat, a Candidate for Master of Sports in army hand-to-hand combat and universal karate Ukado/Kempo, and held a black belt 2nd dan in self-defense.
  • Dodiev was a three-time champion of the Russian Cup in universal karate Ukado/Kempo, a two-time champion of the Northwestern region in hand-to-hand combat among law enforcement agencies, a three-time medalist of the Transbaikal region in army hand-to-hand combat, and a medalist of the Republic of Buryatia in combat sambo.

The situation surrounding Russian athletes at the World Cup underscores the difficulties they face due to the international political climate. Inability to compete could hinder the development of archery within the country. The elimination of two Russian soldiers with sporting backgrounds by Ukrainian forces also raises questions about how the war impacts the sports community and the fates of athletes drawn into the conflict. These events illustrate the complex interplay between sports, politics, and war.

The absence of Russian archers from the World Cup not only underscores the ongoing challenges faced by athletes from the country but also reflects a broader context of military involvement in sports. This situation mirrors recent events where Ukrainian forces have neutralized former athletes turned soldiers, highlighting the intersection of sports and conflict in the region.
