Drone Strike Targets Passenger Train in Kharkiv Region

On January 27, a passenger train in the Barvinkove community of the Kharkiv region was attacked by Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The assault caused a fire in one carriage and the locomotive, resulting in injuries to two individuals. Preliminary reports indicate 291 passengers were on board at the time of the attack. This incident is part of a broader pattern of strikes on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

The attack occurred when three UAVs struck a passenger carriage and the area in front of the locomotive, igniting the fire. Emergency services responded promptly, and all passengers were evacuated from the danger zone as quickly as possible. The two injured individuals were assisted by the train crew and subsequently hospitalized.

Official Response and Escalating Tensions

Regional authorities, including Governor Oleh Syniehubov, confirmed that all emergency services are working at the scene. Reserve buses are being organized for the evacuated passengers. Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleksiy Kuleba added that buses would also be provided for those waiting at stations for return journeys.

Significantly, this drone strike follows a previous attack on the city of Kharkiv on January 26, which involved drones and missiles and also resulted in civilian casualties. The repeated targeting of the Kharkiv region highlights its vulnerability.

Authorities are responding to these incidents by mobilizing emergency services and arranging alternative transport. Such events have the potential to severely disrupt transportation infrastructure and the overall security situation in Ukraine.
