Russian ski jumpers will not be able to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games

Russian ski jumpers will not be able to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games due to visa refusals and the inability to take part in qualifying tournaments. The head coach of the Russian team, Evgeny Plekhov, confirmed this information, noting that the team has no chance of getting to the Olympics due to the lack of visas.

Visas for participation in qualifying tournaments can be issued no earlier than January 22-23, 2026. This means that Russian ski jumpers will not be able to realize their potential on the international stage as they prepare for the Olympic Games. Four Russian ski jumpers, including:

  • Oleksandra Kustova
  • Illya Mankov
  • Mikhail Nazarov
  • Daniel Sandreev

have been granted neutral statuses, but this does not change the situation regarding the lack of participation opportunities in qualifying competitions.

Thus, Russian ski jumpers find themselves in a difficult situation that deprives them of a chance to participate in the world's largest sporting event. As Evgeny Plekhov noted:

'Yes, we have no chances left to get to the Olympics because we will not be able to participate in the qualifying tournaments due to the fact that we were not given visas.' - Evgeny Plekhov

This situation highlights the complex political circumstances that affect the sports activities of athletes from Russia. The refusal of visas not only limits the opportunities of athletes but also raises discussions about fairness and equality in sports at the international level. It is expected that such issues will remain in focus until the start of the 2026 Olympic Games, as they may affect the participation of other Russian athletes in various sports.
