Russian Strikes on April 6th Leave Ukrainian Cities in the Dark and Homes Damaged

Удари Росії 6 квітня залишили українські міста в темряві, а будинки пошкодженими.

Power Outages Across Ukraine Following Russian Strikes

On April 6th, Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure caused major power outages in the city of Slavutych and the Odesa region, along with damage to residential buildings in Odesa and an energy facility in the Chernihiv region. Approximately 21,000 residents in Slavutych were left without electricity. The city's critical infrastructure was switched to backup power, and local 'Invincibility Points' are operational to support the population.

Destruction in Odesa and Chernihiv Region

Overnight on April 6th, a residential high-rise and seven private homes were damaged in Odesa's Primorskyi district. In the city's Kyivskyi district, one multi-story building, five private houses, a private preschool, a shop, and 27 cars were affected. A strike on an energy facility in the wider Odesa region left nearly 17,000 households without power.

Furthermore, Russian strikes damaged an energy facility in the Novhorod-Siverskyi district of the Chernihiv region. Mykola Kalashnyk, an energy sector representative, stated:

'As soon as the security situation allows, energy workers will immediately begin restoration. As always, they will work quickly and selflessly to return power to every home.' Mykola Kalashnyk

These attacks are part of Russia's ongoing campaign to degrade Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, which has been a consistent feature of the full-scale invasion. The resulting blackouts and damage to homes highlight the severe humanitarian consequences faced by Ukrainians, particularly in cities enduring regular bombardment. Government and utility services continue working to restore electricity, but the security situation remains complex and dangerous.

The impact of ongoing Russian assaults on Ukraine's energy infrastructure is increasingly severe, as evidenced by recent events. In light of the latest attacks, which left thousands without power across multiple regions, the situation remains critical for many residents.
