Attack on a Funeral Convoy in Sumy
On May 23, a Russian FPV drone attacked a funeral procession on the outskirts of Sumy, wounding nine people and killing one person later in the hospital due to critical injuries. The strike occurred as the convoy was heading to the city cemetery. Preliminary reports indicate the drone was controlled via fiber-optic cable. The attack also damaged civilian vehicles, including a passenger bus.
Official Statements
Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, described the incident as a 'cynical attack.' He confirmed nine victims.
'Four people have already received medical aid and are being treated on an outpatient basis. Doctors are currently fighting for the life of a severely injured person in the Sumy community, with resuscitation efforts underway. Another person is in serious condition and undergoing surgery,' Hryhorov added.
Regrettably, a man who suffered extremely severe injuries from the Russian strike on the funeral convoy in Sumy died at the hospital.
'The doctors did everything possible to save his life... The identity of the deceased is being established,' Hryhorov reported.
Serhiy Kryvosheyenko, head of the Sumy City Military Administration, also commented on the use of an FPV drone. In connection with the event, a 10-hour power outage is scheduled in Sumy on May 24 for repair work.
