Kyiv Targeted in Russian Drone Attack
A Russian drone strike on a nine-story residential building in Kyiv caused the complete collapse of one of its entrances. Emergency services reported one fatality and dozens of people rescued, with fears that more individuals may still be trapped under the rubble. Across the capital, at least 20 sites were damaged, including residential buildings, a school, and a veterinary clinic.
Overnight Barrage and Aftermath
During the night, Russian forces launched over 670 attack drones and 56 missiles across Ukraine. The strikes involved ballistic, aeroballistic, and cruise missiles, with Kyiv as the primary target. A total of 731 aerial attack assets were recorded, including 56 missiles and 675 drones. The missile types included:
- three Kh-47 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles
- 18 Iskander-M ballistic missiles
- 35 Kh-101 cruise missiles
These launches originated from Russia's Lipetsk, Bryansk, Kursk, and Vologda regions.
Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept 693 targets, comprising 41 missiles and 652 drones. Among the destroyed munitions were 29 Kh-101 cruise missiles and 12 ballistic missiles. At least six districts of Kyiv were hit. In the Darnytskyi district, the collapse of a multi-story building's structures led to rescuers pulling 27 people from the debris. In Obolonskyi district, a 12th-floor apartment and a 25-story unfinished building were damaged, while in Dniprovskyi district, roofs of five-story buildings and a private home caught fire.
In the broader Kyiv region, seven people were injured, including a child. Strikes also impacted the Obukhiv, Brovary, Fastiv, Boryspil, and Bila Tserkva districts. As of 7:30 AM, the State Emergency Service reported 31 injured individuals in Kyiv, including a child.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated: 'A rescue operation is currently underway in Kyiv at the site of a Russian drone strike on a nine-story residential building—one entrance has been completely destroyed. Dozens of people have been rescued. Unfortunately, one person has died. There may still be people under the rubble.'
He also emphasized the need for continued support in protecting Ukrainian skies and underscored the importance of the PURL program to defend against such attacks.
