Russians banned from entering the World Cup in Finland
Russians will not be able to participate in the skiing World Cup in Finland due to the entry ban imposed by the Finnish Ski Association. This statement was published by the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
Sirpa Korkatti, president of the Finnish Ski Association, stated that even if allowed by the International Ski Federation (FIS), Russian athletes will not be able to compete in the events in Ruka.
On October 21, the issue of Russian participation in international competitions involving FIS will be decided, but Korkatti insists that the entry ban to Finland will remain in force.
«There is nothing for Russians to do in Ruka, as the entry ban remains in effect,» emphasized Korkatti.
Request to participate in the Olympics from a Russian athlete
Anastasia Tatalina, a Russian freestyle skier, has appealed to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation requesting her participation in the 2026 Olympic Games, although her membership in the military club CSKA is linked to Russia's military activities in Ukraine.
«I represent Russia, and I was proud when the president of Russia Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) sent me a telegram after my victory at the World Championship,» said Tatalina.
In her online profile, she expressed support for Russian aggression with the slogan «we do not abandon our own,» which sparked outrage in the Ukrainian community.
After the Finnish Ski Association banned Russians from entering the World Cup in Ruka, additional difficulties will arise for athletes from Russia to participate in international competitions. At the same time, Russian freestyle skier Anastasia Tatalina expressed a desire to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games, though her support for Russian aggression in Ukraine raises controversies in the sports community.
