Funds Stolen at National Medical University
On June 23, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Kyiv city prosecutor's office announced suspicions against three individuals allegedly involved in a scheme that embezzled UAH 15 million during facade and roof repairs at the O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University. This case highlights ongoing anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine's public sector.
The stolen funds, totaling UAH 15 million, had been allocated for renovation work at the university. The relevant tenders were conducted in 2021. Investigators have identified the roles of the suspects:
- One individual is accused of orchestrating the creation and participation of controlled companies in university tenders.
- Another suspect served as a technical supervision engineer, overseeing the work carried out.
- The third suspect is a former head of the university's capital repairs and construction department.
Currently, one of the female participants in the scheme has been ordered to post bail of UAH 8 million. Another suspect, a former university official, is under nighttime house arrest. Indictments against those who allegedly directly appropriated the university's funds are already before the court.
'Indictments against individuals who, according to the investigation, directly misappropriated university funds are already being reviewed by the court,' the Prosecutor General's Office stated.
