The Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Oleksii Sobolev has initiated the process of amending the state environmental policy strategy of Ukraine for the next 10 years. The first meeting of the working group took place on December 19, 2025, under the leadership of Deputy Minister Ihor Zubovych.

Participants of the meeting noted that the current strategy does not sufficiently consider environmental issues in various policy areas and lacks clear indicators for assessing international support. During the discussion, issues regarding legislative updates, implementation of European standards for assessing and compensating environmental risks, enhancing the integration of environmental aspects into all areas of activity, and more were addressed.

'Integrating ecology into strategic planning is a key point for sustainable development and the preservation of our natural environment' - noted Oleksii Sobolev.

The working group includes representatives of central and local authorities, scientific institutions, and civil society representatives. Their common goal is to implement an ecosystem approach to the formation of state policies and to strengthen coordination among sectors.

After the meeting, participants agreed to continue joint work on updating Ukraine's state environmental policy strategy for 2030.

The Ukrainian government is actively working on improving the country's environmental policy strategy, in particular, seeking ways to implement modern standards and approaches for environmental preservation and sustainable development.
