New Threats Emerging from Moscow
Ukraine's Defense Intelligence has obtained documents indicating that Russia is preparing a new wave of missile and drone attacks. Moscow is labeling its targets as 'decision-making centers,' a list that includes nearly twenty political hubs and military installations across the country.
On the night of May 14, Russian forces launched a massive, coordinated assault on Kyiv, combining ballistic missiles and drones. Several districts of the capital were hit, including:
- Shevchenkivskyi
- Pecherskyi
- Darnytskyi
- Dniprovskyi
- Obolonskyi
- Solomyanskyi
- Desnyanskyi
- Sviatoshynskyi
- Holosiivskyi
A search-and-rescue operation in the Darnytskyi district lasted over 28 hours, wrapping up on the morning of May 15. The attack claimed 24 lives, including three children, and left 48 residents injured. Kyiv observed a Day of Mourning on May 15 in response to the tragedy.
Belarus Factor
Meanwhile, Ukraine reports that Russia is attempting to drag Belarus into the conflict. Moscow is reportedly drafting operational plans for both southern and northern offensives from Belarusian territory. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented:
“Of course, we have taken note of this information. But I would like to specifically point out to the Russian leadership that Ukraine is not Russia. Unlike the aggressor country, where there is a clear author of this war and his long-time entourage that keeps him detached from reality, Ukraine's defense comes from the willingness of its people to fight for their independence and their own sovereign state.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy also stressed the urgency of ending the war:
“Russia needs to finish this war and negotiate a dignified peace, rather than searching for new ways to intimidate Ukraine.”
This report highlights an escalation in hostilities, with Russia continuing to target critical infrastructure and population centers. The situation remains volatile, inflicting severe civilian casualties. At the same time, Ukrainian leadership has signaled unwavering resolve to repel aggression and defend the nation's territorial integrity. The international community's next moves—and its continued support for Ukraine—remain crucial as the conflict intensifies.
The recent surge in missile and drone attacks on Kyiv is not an isolated incident. Similar patterns were observed during the March 20 assault, where over 200 drones targeted multiple cities, resulting in significant casualties. This escalating threat from Russia highlights the ongoing dangers faced by Ukrainian civilians and military forces alike.
