U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has revealed that a framework for restarting negotiations between Ukraine and Russia could be developed within the next few weeks. He explained that previous discussions involving special envoys appointed by the American president, held in Moscow and Kyiv, were substantive but have yet to produce meaningful breakthroughs in bridging the differences between the two nations.
Rubio emphasized that both Ukraine and Russia maintain firm red lines, which significantly hinder progress toward agreement.
“We have been closely monitoring the situation for quite some time, and so far, neither side has shown a strong willingness to make concessions,” he stated.Despite these challenges, the Secretary of State remains cautiously hopeful:
“I don’t want to be overly optimistic, but I also don’t want to be pessimistic. I believe there is a chance in the coming weeks to craft a roadmap for resuming talks and possibly reach an outcome acceptable to both parties—something essential to bringing this conflict to an end.”Rubio shared these insights during his visit to Colombia.
