Camelia Voinea Case Overview
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation has temporarily suspended coach Camelia Voinea following serious complaints from her athletes. The gymnasts reported systematic physical and psychological abuse, as well as financial irregularities that have been referred to Romania's anti-corruption authorities. Specifically, gymnasts Denisa Golgota, Mara Ceplinski, and Anamaria Mihaescu accused the coach of aggressive behavior and emotional mistreatment.
Leaked Video and Financial Misconduct
Additionally, a leaked video surfaced showing Voinea physically assaulting her own daughter, Sabrina Maneca-Voinea. In light of these events, the disciplinary committee has decided to freeze its internal investigation pending the outcome of the official inquiry.
Romania's National Sports Agency also uncovered financial misconduct at the CS Farul Constanța club. From January 2024 to November 2025, Voinea did not show up for work at the club, yet she was illegally paid 153,031 lei (approximately $34,000 USD) during that period. The state is demanding repayment of these funds, but Voinea has refused to voluntarily return the money and has instead filed a lawsuit against the club. Case materials have been forwarded to two prosecutor's offices for further investigation.
