President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Ruslan Khomchak from the position of first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. The new first deputy is Major General Yevgeniy Ostryansky, who previously held the position of deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, in an evening address on October 14.
Who is Yevgeniy Ostryansky
According to Umerov, Yevgeniy Ostryansky has over 30 years of military service and is well-versed in strategic planning and defense management. The newly appointed official will be responsible for the military block within the NSDC structure.
«He will coordinate issues of interaction with the security and defense sector to strengthen our military, as well as prepare meetings of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff», — noted Umerov.
Umerov thanked Khomchak for his work in the NSDC
The Secretary of the NSDC also thanked Ruslan Khomchak for his service, professionalism, and contribution to strengthening national security.
The main changes in the NSDC structure concern:
- updating the leadership staff;
- strengthening the military direction of the Council's work;
- establishing coordination between law enforcement agencies.
Rustem Umerov, who before his appointment to the NSDC was the Minister of Defense, continues to oversee the defense sector. Earlier this month, he, along with a delegation from the NSDC, visited the USA to discuss joint projects, including agreements on the use of drones in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier we reported that the NSDC adopted a decision to maximize sanctions pressure on Russia to end the war.
