Starting from November 3, 2025, Ryanair will completely eliminate paper boarding passes, introducing mandatory online check-in and new baggage rules. Violating these requirements threatens fines of up to 100 euros, which could significantly increase passenger expenses. This was reported by Business Insider.

Why Ryanair is introducing digital boarding passes

The Irish low-cost carrier explains the changes as an effort to simplify processes and reduce operational costs. According to Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary, 90% of passengers already use digital boarding passes, so the transition will not be unexpected. Assistance with online check-in is provided for elderly passengers and those in need of support.

The elimination of paper will save 300 tons of paper annually, reducing environmental impact and queues at airports.

What fines are there for not having a digital boarding pass with Ryanair

Not checking in online will cost the passenger 40-50 euros depending on the airport, while being late for check-in less than 40 minutes before departure will cost 100 euros. The same amount will be charged for attempting to use another flight in case of being late.

New baggage rules

  • Maximum hand luggage dimensions: 40×30×20 cm (previously 40×20×25 cm).

  • Fine for excess: up to 75 euros.

  • Self-service: Ryanair expands baggage drop-off points for faster processing.

Baggage limitation issues have arisen since April 2025, when Ryanair tightened size control. Even minimal excess of the limit leads to fines. For Ukrainians who frequently fly with low-cost carriers in Europe, this is a signal to prepare more meticulously for trips by checking luggage sizes and checking in online.

Earlier, we reported that Ukrainians can now fly cheaply from Poland to Portugal.
