Khedira Returns to Real Madrid

Former German international midfielder Sami Khedira is heading back to Real Madrid, this time as an assistant to José Mourinho. Khedira played for the Spanish giants from 2010 to 2015, spending three of those seasons under Mourinho’s management. Together during that period, they secured:

  • the La Liga title
  • the Copa del Rey
  • the Spanish Super Cup

Khedira also added another La Liga championship, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup to his trophy collection.

Collaboration and Club Stability

His role will involve bridging communication between the club, coaching staff, and players. Mourinho, the Portuguese tactician, has previously worked with other former Real Madrid defenders and compatriots like Pepe and Ricardo Carvalho, making this reunion a familiar dynamic.

Additionally, Real Madrid has extended its partnership with Emirates airline through 2031, underscoring the club’s financial stability. Club president Florentino Pérez secured 65% of the vote from club members in recent elections, ensuring he remains in charge until at least 2029. The club plans to officially present its new head coach and his staff in July.

Khedira’s return highlights Real Madrid’s push to maintain coaching stability and improve player-coach communication. His prior experience working under Mourinho could prove a valuable asset as the team prepares for upcoming competitions.

Moreover, the extended Emirates deal and Pérez’s strong mandate reflect the club’s solid financial footing, which may support its growth in the years ahead.

As Khedira steps into his new role, it's worth noting that Mourinho has also sought to strengthen his coaching staff by inviting former defender Pepe to join him at Real Madrid. This move indicates Mourinho's strategy of surrounding himself with familiar faces, aiming to foster a cohesive environment as the team gears up for the upcoming season.
