SBU attacked the GRAU arsenal and oil depot in Russia: massive explosions and fire

Служба безпеки України завдала удару по російському арсеналу та нафтобазі: потужні вибухи та пожежі в регіоні.

Attacks by the Security Service of Ukraine on Enemy Targets in Russia

On January 6, 2026, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out attacks on enemy targets in Russia, causing significant damage. As a result of the operation, the following were attacked:

  • arsenal No. 100 of the Main Rocket and Artillery Control (GRAU) in the Neysky district of the Kostroma region;
  • oil depot 'Gercon Plus' in the settlement of Streletskye Khutory in the Lipetsk region.

The attack on the arsenal in the Kostroma region resulted in a massive detonation of ammunition, accompanied by significant explosions. This forced the authorities to take measures, including evacuating the population from nearby settlements to ensure the safety of local residents.

At the same time, a powerful fire broke out at the 'Gercon Plus' oil depot as a result of the attack. This oil depot supplied petroleum products to three regions: Tambov, Voronezh, and Lipetsk, highlighting its strategic significance for the region.

These events occurred after the SBU disclosed details of the preparation for the explosion of a Russian submarine in the port of Novorossiysk on December 23, 2025, indicating the activation of Ukrainian forces in carrying out operations against enemy military targets.

Escalation of Hostilities

The attacks on enemy targets in Russia indicate an escalation of hostilities between Ukraine and Russia, particularly in the context of the intensification of the conflict. The situation on the front continues to change, and such operations may impact the strategies of both sides, as well as the overall security of the region.

The importance of attacks on strategic targets underscores the growing role of intelligence agencies in modern military conflicts.
