Attacks on Russian Military Infrastructure
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), in coordination with the Defense Forces and the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), carried out a series of strikes targeting military and logistical facilities inside Russia. These operations put several key assets at risk:
- The 15th Arsenal of the Russian Navy in the Leningrad region;
- The Kronstadt naval base;
- The Ust-Labinsk oil depot in the Krasnodar region.
Following the strike on the 15th Naval Arsenal, a fire broke out, triggering secondary explosions of munitions stored at the facility. Reports indicate that the depot held missiles and other ammunition. The flames also spread to the Kronstadt naval base and the Kronstadt Marine Plant, both of which are critical for repairing and supporting ships of Russia’s Baltic Fleet.
Additionally, a series of explosions at the Ust-Labinsk oil depot sparked a large-scale fire that engulfed at least three fuel storage tanks. The SBU noted that this depot serves as a crucial rear hub for storing and supplying fuel to Russian forces operating in the southern and eastern theaters. Disabling such facilities disrupts enemy logistics, reduces fleet combat readiness, and limits Russia’s ability to operate in the Baltic region.
Assault on Kronstadt
During the night of June 6, Ukrainian drones struck the Kronstadt naval base of Russia’s Baltic Fleet near St. Petersburg. The drone impacts also ignited a fire at the site. These actions highlight the ongoing efforts by Ukrainian forces to undermine Russia’s military infrastructure.
These strikes are part of Ukraine’s strategic campaign to weaken Russia’s military infrastructure, thereby reducing its capacity to conduct combat operations.
Neutralizing key logistics hubs and military depots can significantly impact the operational readiness of Russian forces, especially amid ongoing hostilities. It also demonstrates Ukraine’s growing ability to deploy drone technology to achieve its wartime objectives.
These recent strikes are part of a broader strategy by Ukrainian forces to target critical Russian military assets. In a related incident, Ukrainian drones also targeted three regions in Russia and Mariupol, demonstrating the expanding scope of these operations.
