Assault on the Oil and Gas Terminal
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), together with the Alpha Special Operations Center, the Special Operations Forces, and military intelligence, carried out a strike on the Tamanneftegaz oil and gas terminal in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. Drones hit five petroleum product storage tanks and two oil-loading racks. Tamanneftegaz is the largest facility in southern Russia for transshipping liquefied hydrocarbons. The attack also targeted Russian air defense positions guarding the terminal.
Strikes on Russian Facilities
That same night, on June 13, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck an oil preparation and pumping workshop near Kotovo in the Volgograd region. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the hit and a subsequent fire at the plant, which processes and pumps oil from the Korobkovskoye and nearby fields.
Additionally, Defense Forces targeted enemy command posts near Soledar in Donetsk region and Verkhnya Krinitsa in Zaporizhzhia region. Drones also struck command posts near Khoromny in Bryansk region, Voskresenka in Donetsk region, and Novomykolaivka in Kherson region. The SBU stated that Russia’s oil and gas sector funds its war against Ukraine:
'It is oil dollars that are transformed into missiles, drones, and ammunition with which the enemy attacks our cities.'
The SBU also emphasized its ongoing mission:
'The SBU will continue to systematically deprive the Russian war machine of resources for waging war.'
These strikes highlight Ukraine’s intensified campaign to destroy critical infrastructure that directly funds Russia’s military operations. Given the oil and gas sector’s importance to Russia’s war capabilities, Ukraine aims to significantly weaken the aggressor by reducing its economic potential. Such actions could reshape both sides’ war strategies, as resource control plays a pivotal role in modern conflicts.
In a related development, Ukrainian forces have successfully targeted another significant oil facility in Russia, striking a key station that plays a crucial role in the country's fuel supply network. This operation not only disrupts logistics but also contributes to Ukraine's broader strategy of undermining Russia's military capabilities.
