Ukraine Strikes Russia's Key Baltic Oil Terminal for Second Time in a Week

Українські сили знову завдали удару по стратегічному нафтовому терміналу Росії в Балтійському регіоні.

Ukrainian Defense Forces Conduct Special Operation

Ukrainian Defense Forces have successfully targeted infrastructure at the Ust-Luga oil terminal in Russia's Leningrad region. This marks the second attack in a week on Russian oil export facilities in the Baltic Sea region. The port of Ust-Luga is a critical maritime hub for Russia, used for exporting crude oil and petroleum products. These long-range strikes demonstrate Ukraine's growing capability to project force deep into Russian territory.

The attack was carried out using long-range drones from the SBU's Alpha Special Operations Center, which traveled over 900 kilometers. The operation damaged oil-loading gantries and a storage tank farm containing oil and petroleum products. According to the governor of Leningrad Oblast, a large-scale fire was recorded at the port site.

Repeated Attacks on Oil Exports

This operation represents a repeated SBU strike on Russian oil exports in the Baltic region within a short timeframe. Previously, on March 23, SBU drones also hit the port of Primorsk, where a fire is reportedly still burning. On the night of March 25, Leningrad Oblast came under another mass drone attack, with Governor Alexander Drozdenko reporting that air defense and electronic warfare systems destroyed 33 UAVs. Additionally, on the night of March 25, a ship belonging to the Russian occupiers was damaged at the Vyborg Shipyard.

Major General Yevhen Khmar, acting head of the SBU, stated: 'Today's special operation is a symbolic gift to the enemy for Security Service Day. Another reminder that there are no longer any safe regions in Russia.'

The operation at Ust-Luga port underscores Ukraine's intensified efforts to degrade Russia's economic potential amid the ongoing conflict. Targeted strikes on key infrastructure facilities, such as oil processing plants, significantly impact the financial resources Russia uses to wage war. Furthermore, such actions may increase regional tensions and affect global oil markets, as Ust-Luga is a vital node for Russian oil exports.

Major General Yevhen Khmar added: 'Striking facilities like Ust-Luga has not only a tactical but also a strategic effect, as it reduces foreign currency inflows into the Russian budget.'

The recent attacks on Russian oil facilities have led to significant disruptions in the region. Following the strikes on Ust-Luga, Russia's oil exports via the Baltic Sea have come to a halt, highlighting the escalating impact of Ukraine's strategic operations on the country's energy sector.
