Criminal Case Against Vladimir Petroff

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has initiated a high treason investigation against political strategist Vladimir Petroff. The case, opened on January 14, 2026, alleges that Petroff, the founder of the 'Iceland' channel, assisted the Russian Federation in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine. This development occurs amidst Ukraine's ongoing national defense against Russian aggression.

Vladimir Petroff, who has held a military service deferment since July 2025, was formally employed as a specialist in the communications and IT department of the state institution 'National Military Memorial Cemetery'. In a related move, Ukraine's Ministry for Veterans Affairs has launched an internal investigation into his conduct. Petroff has since resigned from his position of his own accord.

Public and Law Enforcement Reaction

People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that Petroff, who works as a blogger, TV host, and producer for 'Lumpen Production' LLC, has drawn law enforcement scrutiny over suspicions of collaborating with the enemy. Minister Natalia Kalmykova confirmed the start of the official probe while responding to parliamentary inquiries in the Verkhovna Rada.

The situation surrounding Vladimir Petroff has generated significant public interest, as it touches on core issues of national security and Ukraine's fight against external threats.

Amidst the protracted war with Russia, allegations of state treason carry profound weight, as suspected collaboration with the enemy poses serious risks to national security. The official investigation launched by the Ministry for Veterans Affairs further demonstrates the serious approach being taken to assess the actions of state employees and their potential impact on the country's situation.
