The people's deputy, who was already under arrest for treason, is now also suspected of large-scale fraud. According to the security services of Ukraine and other law enforcement agencies, he is accused of extorting money from Ukrainian companies through his connections with Belarus, which created obstacles for purchasing goods.
The suspect MP even managed to demand 14.5 million hryvnias in bribes for solving problems with the delivery of mineral fertilizers from Belarus to Ukraine.
It has also been established that the bribe amount was transferred to the accounts of a structure belonging to the deputy's son. Furthermore, the suspect may be receiving 'kickbacks' from other Ukrainian enterprises that seek quotas for the supply of fertilizers from Belarus.
The gathered evidence allowed for the suspicion of the people's deputy for large-scale fraud according to the Criminal Code of Ukraine, but the name of the detained individual has not yet been disclosed. Media speculate that it is Yevhenii Shevchenko - a Ukrainian politician with complicated political maneuvers in the past.
Yevhenii Shevchenko is known for his pro-Russian stance, which led to his conflict with the Ukrainian authorities. Previous accusations of treason and the current suspicion of fraud have been a heavy blow for the politician, who has yet to escape from scandals.
Investigations are currently ongoing, and the details of the case may be crucial for understanding the corruption problems in high political circles in Ukraine.
