Ukraine's Security Service Strikes: 15 Russian Aircraft Destroyed in Year-Long Campaign

Сили безпеки України завдали удару: знищено 15 російських літаків за рік наполегливої боротьби.

Operations by Ukraine's Security Service

Over the past year, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has executed a series of special operations targeting five military airfields belonging to the Russian Federation. These strikes successfully damaged or destroyed 15 units of aviation equipment, including:

  • 11 fighter jets and bombers: Su-30SM, Su-34, Su-27, Su-24, and MiG-31 models
  • Three helicopters: Mi-28, Mi-26, and Mi-8
  • One An-26 transport plane

The total estimated value of the neutralized enemy air defense assets is approximately $4 billion. These deep-strike operations demonstrate Ukraine's growing capability to project force against strategic Russian assets far behind the front lines.

Infrastructure Attacks and Cybersecurity

In a separate operation, drones from the SBU's Alpha Special Operations Center struck infrastructure at the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in Russia's Krasnodar region. The Tamanneftegaz port is one of the largest in the Black Sea area, with a storage tank farm for oil products and liquefied gas exceeding 1 million cubic meters in capacity.

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, experts from the SBU's Cyber Security Department have thwarted over 14,000 major cyberattacks and cyber incidents targeting Ukrainian government resources and critical infrastructure. As an SBU representative stated:

'In the last year alone, SBU long-range drones visited five Russian military airfields. The result is 15 units of aviation equipment the enemy will no longer be able to fly.'

These SBU actions highlight an intensification of Ukrainian efforts to degrade Russian military logistics and operational capacity. Strikes on airfields and energy-related infrastructure can significantly impact an adversary's ability to sustain combat operations, while the defense against cyberattacks underscores the critical role of cybersecurity in modern warfare for protecting national stability during conflict.
