Blocking of the Starlink terminal registration scheme
The Security Service of Ukraine has blocked a large-scale scheme for registering Starlink terminals for Russians. An organizer was uncovered in Dnipro who verified more than 1000 Starlink systems using the data of fictitious persons. This activity was carried out to bypass restrictions and provide internet access to Russian users.
Detention of individuals involved and consequences
In Kyiv, two individuals were detained for registering 76 Starlink terminals. To circumvent established verification rules, they involved a postal worker. All illegally registered terminals were blocked by the SBU, confirming the seriousness of the situation.
The perpetrators are currently in custody, facing a lengthy prison sentence ranging from 12 years to life imprisonment. Additionally, it is noted that Russians are recruiting Ukrainians through Telegram groups for 'easy earnings.' The Security Service of Ukraine urges citizens to report such cases via the chatbot 'Burn the FSB Agent', phone 1516, or email callcenter@ssu.gov.ua.
This situation underscores the importance of controlling communication technology, especially in the context of military conflict. The improper use of Starlink terminals may threaten national security and ensure information security in Ukraine. The SBU continues its active struggle against such schemes, trying to prevent access to foreign technologies that could be used against the country.
