Kyiv Teenager Arrested for Feeding Coordinates to Russian Missile Strikes

Київський підліток затриманий за надання інформації про розташування для російських ракетних ударів.

Ukrainian Counterintelligence Nabs Russian Agent

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) counterintelligence has apprehended an 18-year-old Kyiv resident accused of guiding a Russian aerial assault on the capital during the night of May 24. The suspect, recruited via the Telegram messaging app, now faces high treason charges. A court has ordered him held in pre-trial detention. This arrest highlights the ongoing threat of enemy infiltration as the war enters a critical phase.

The detention occurred the day after a massive bombardment of Kyiv. The suspect was conducting reconnaissance near a Ukrainian Ministry of Defense facility at the time of his capture. According to the SBU, the agent was following enemy orders by marking transport corridors used by Ukrainian Armed Forces to move military equipment on Google Maps. The security service stated this was a test assignment; after completing it, he was instructed to document the aftermath of the combined attack on Kyiv.

Arrest Details and Consequences

Upon arrest, authorities seized a smartphone containing intelligence reports. The agent planned to relay this data in real time to a handler in Russia to prepare new strikes and adjust follow-up attacks on the city. He has been charged under Article 111, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which covers high treason during martial law. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

It is worth noting that on the night of May 24, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine using ballistic and hypersonic missiles, along with hundreds of attack drones and decoys. The cost of this assault is estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova threatened Kyiv with further strikes, stating that retaliatory attacks would continue.

Russian strikes have reportedly targeted facilities for the design, production, and programming of unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as nearly two dozen political centers and military sites.

The arrest of a Russian agent tasked with coordinating attacks on Kyiv underscores the intensifying activity of hostile elements within Ukraine, particularly amid the ongoing military conflict. The SBU counterintelligence operation demonstrates the state's efforts to neutralize threats and ensure national security—a critical task given the persistent aggression from Russia. This situation highlights the importance of information security and countering enemy infiltration that could jeopardize Ukraine's state interests.

The recent arrest of the Kyiv teenager underscores the escalating threat posed by enemy operatives. In a related incident, Ukrainian authorities have detained two additional Russian agents who were allegedly involved in directing airstrikes on major cities, including Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia. This highlights the persistent risk of infiltration and the critical need for vigilance.
