Detention Measures for Volodymyr Kompanichenko
The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has detained Volodymyr Kompanichenko, the head of its Zhytomyr Oblast directorate, on suspicion of orchestrating a scheme to embezzle state funds allocated for constructing protective shelters for military aircraft. A court has ordered him held in custody for 60 days, with the option of release on bail set at 6.98 million hryvnias (approximately $175,000).
If released on bail, Kompanichenko must surrender his passport, wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, remain within Zhytomyr Oblast, and report to authorities when summoned. The Office of the Prosecutor General and the SBU uncovered the embezzlement scheme, which preliminary estimates indicate caused losses of 1.4 billion hryvnias (about $35 million) to the state budget.
