FSB Agent, Working as a Taxi Driver, Apprehended for Guiding Russian Missile Strikes on Odesa

Оперативник ФСБ, який працював таксистом, затриманий за сприяння російським ракетним обстрілам Одеси.

FSB Agent Captured in Odesa

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) counterintelligence has apprehended a Russian FSB agent operating in Odesa under the cover of a local taxi driver. The individual was gathering intelligence to help direct Russian missile and drone strikes against the city. According to the SBU, he used his taxi job to surveil the locations of Ukrainian defense forces and local electrical substations.

The agent employed a smartphone and tablet to photograph the perimeters of potential targets and mark their geolocations on Google Maps. He also compiled intelligence reports for his FSB handlers. During searches of his residence, investigators seized these devices and SIM cards containing the gathered intelligence. The suspect used an anonymous chat to communicate with his FSB supervisor.

Investigation and Consequences

The suspect first came to the FSB's attention in late 2025 when he began searching online for easy money-making schemes. SBU investigators have formally notified him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which pertains to high treason committed under martial law. The detainee is now in custody and faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

This case is not isolated; a similar incident occurred earlier in the Donetsk region, where a school deputy director was detained as an informant for Russian special services, having helped adjust strikes on Kramatorsk. These arrests highlight an ongoing network of agents operating within Ukraine to assist Russian targeting. The persistent threat of such covert operatives remains a significant challenge for Ukrainian security forces.

The arrest of the FSB agent in Odesa underscores the persistent threat posed by Russian intelligence services, which actively recruit civilians to gather targeting data.

The Security Service of Ukraine continues to implement measures to detect and neutralize such threats, a critical task for protecting civilian infrastructure and maintaining national security during the ongoing conflict.

In a related development, the Ukrainian Security Service has recently apprehended a drone operator for treason, revealing a disturbing trend of individuals leaking sensitive military information. This incident echoes the ongoing efforts by Russian intelligence to infiltrate various sectors within Ukraine, as highlighted by the recent arrest of the FSB agent in Odesa.
