Ukraine's Security Service Reports Destroying Over 2000 Russian Tanks in Two Years of War

Служба безпеки України повідомила про знищення понад 2000 російських танків за два роки військового конфлікту.

Ukraine's Security Service Day

March 25 marks the annual observance of Ukraine's Security Service Day. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy used the occasion to express gratitude to the agency's personnel for their role in defending the nation's sovereignty and its people. He stated:

'I thank every warrior of Ukraine's Security Service for protecting our state, our independence, and our people! Ukrainians can rightfully take pride in their Security Service – truly combative, truly patriotic, and truly effective.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, SBU operatives have achieved significant results against the enemy. Their combat record includes the destruction of:

  • over 2000 tanks,
  • more than 4500 artillery systems,
  • over 700 enemy air defense units.

Beyond direct combat, the SBU conducted dozens of unique special operations last year that substantially strengthened the country's defensive capabilities. The SBU, originally a domestic intelligence and counterintelligence body, has taken on a major combat role since the invasion began.

The Significance of the SBU's Work

The President also underscored the critical importance of the Security Service's wartime activities, noting:

'The SBU's long-range capabilities, strength on the front lines, and counteraction against Russian sabotage operations and agent networks have become exemplary in many ways. Honor and gratitude to all who work and fight for this. And we always remember every SBU warrior, all the service's personnel who gave their lives so that Ukraine would exist and be protected. Glory to Ukraine!' Volodymyr Zelenskyy

These remarks affirm the vital role and significance of Ukraine's Security Service under current conditions, as the country confronts external threats. The commemoration of Security Service Day occurs against the backdrop of the ongoing war with Russia, highlighting the SBU's function as a cornerstone of national security. Throughout the conflict, the Service has demonstrated its effectiveness in countering aggression, a key factor in sustaining the country's defense. Presidential recognition of the SBU's achievements signals strong support for state institutions working to protect Ukraine's national interests.

As the nation celebrates Ukraine's Security Service Day on March 25, it's essential to recognize the historical significance of this observance. This day not only honors the bravery of SBU personnel but also highlights the ongoing evolution of the agency's role in safeguarding Ukraine against external threats, especially during these challenging times.
