The situation with corruption in Ukraine

In 2025, seven members of the Ukrainian parliament received charges of corruption crimes, including false declaration, bribery, and state treason. The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) issued verdicts against several deputies, confirming the seriousness of the corruption situation in the country.

Among the deputies who were charged with false declaration were:

  • Iryna Korymushkina
  • Yulia Didenko

Oleksiy Kuznetsov was a suspect in bribery, while Viktor Bondar received charges related to corruption connected with 'Ukrzaliznytsia' procurements. Kostyantyn Bondariev also became the subject of investigation due to suspicion of illegal transportation of men abroad. Additionally, Fedir Khyrystenko was charged with state treason, which is a serious accusation.

Yevheniy Shevchenko, who has been in pre-trial detention since 2024, is also suspected of state treason. The HACC found Anatoliy Hunya guilty of extortion and receiving a bribe, sentencing him to 7 years in prison. Another deputy, Andriy Odarchenko, was also found guilty and faces 8 years of imprisonment with property confiscation.

Systemic problems with corruption

Moreover, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine uncovered regional and city council deputies in Volyn region receiving illegal benefits, indicating systemic problems of corruption at all levels of power. These events underline the need to continue the fight against corruption in Ukraine and strengthen the control over the activities of public servants.

The situation with corruption in Ukraine, which has recently become the subject of active investigations, indicates serious systemic issues in public administration. The detection of corruption schemes among deputies not only undermines citizens' trust in the government but also threatens the reforms that the country is trying to implement amid modern challenges. Continuing the fight against corruption will require efforts from both state institutions and society as a whole to ensure transparency and accountability at all levels of governance.
