Concern of the President of Serbia
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic expressed concern regarding possible threats after the signing of a trilateral defense declaration between Croatia, Albania, and Kosovo. This agreement, aimed at strengthening security and operational compatibility of armed forces, was signed in Tirana on March 18, 2025. In his statement, Vucic noted that Serbia is preparing for a possible attack from these countries.
Vucic also mentioned the presence of Chinese air-to-ground hypersonic missiles in Serbia, capable of hitting targets up to 400 kilometers away. These words drew particular attention as they underscore Serbia's readiness to respond to potential threats. Vucic accused Zagreb of interfering in Serbia's internal affairs over the past year and a half, highlighting tensions in relations between the countries.
Response from Croatia and Kosovo
Croatia, which recognized Kosovo's independence, and representatives from this country, including Minister of Defense Ivan Anusic and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo Donika Gervalla-Schwarz, dismissed Vucic's claims. It is important to note that Belgrade has officially refused to recognize Kosovo's state sovereignty since 2008, considering it its province.
“They are waiting for the right moment. We are preparing for their attack,” Vucic emphasized in his statement.
These words highlight the seriousness of the situation and the potential consequences of the trilateral agreement for regional stability.
The situation surrounding the trilateral agreement between Croatia, Albania, and Kosovo reflects the growing tension in the Western Balkans, where historical conflicts and political disputes continue to affect relations between countries. Serbia's refusal to recognize Kosovo and its military readiness could lead to further escalation of conflict in the region, especially amid expanding military capabilities of its neighbors. This underscores the need for diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and prevent conflict.
