The average age of passenger cars in Ukraine
The average age of passenger cars in Ukraine has risen to 16.6 years. This indicator has increased due to the activation of sales in budget segments. In October 2023, the average age of cars was 16.4 years, indicating a gradual aging of the vehicle fleet.
Regional differences in the average age of vehicles
Kiev is the region with the youngest vehicle fleet, with an average car age of 11.1 years. In Transcarpathia and Lviv region, the average age of cars reaches 14.7 years. In other regions, especially in the East and South of Ukraine, there is a trend towards having the oldest vehicles.
It is also worth noting that the average age of cars registered through the Diia application is 17.0 years. Regarding different types of vehicles, the average age is:
- electric cars – 4.7 years;
- hybrids – 5.8 years;
- gasoline cars – 14.3 years;
- diesel cars – 14.8 years;
- cars with gas equipment (GBO) – over 18.3 years.
Thus, the analysis indicates a general trend of aging of the vehicle fleet in Ukraine, with particular differences in age characteristics depending on the region and type of fuel.
This data indicates the need for updating the vehicle fleet, which may be driven by both economic factors and environmental requirements. The increase in the average age of cars, especially in regions with lower purchasing power, may affect road safety and the environmental situation in the country. It is important to consider that with the development of technology and the growing popularity of electric cars, a gradual change in the structure of the vehicle fleet may occur in the coming years.
