January 2026: How an Electric Oven Can Cause Power Outages

Січень 2026: Вплив електричної плити на стабільність енергомереж.

Energy Efficiency of Household Appliances in Ukraine

In January 2026, the issue of energy efficiency of household appliances became critically important in Ukraine due to a shortage of electricity. The electric oven, which is one of the largest consumers of energy among household appliances, can significantly impact the stability of power supply. The power of an electric oven ranges from 2,000 to 5,000 watts, making it one of the main factors capable of causing emergency power outages.

With a month of active cooking, an electric oven consumes between 40 and 90 kWh, which is a substantial load on the power grid. Additionally, the standby mode of the electric oven can add up to 224 kWh per year to the total energy consumption. The loss of 20% heat each time the oven door is opened also affects the energy efficiency, leading to increased electricity costs.

Recommendations for Improving Energy Efficiency

To improve energy efficiency and avoid power outages, consumers are advised to follow certain guidelines. Among them:

  • The principle of 'residual heat', which involves using the residual heat of the oven after turning it off.
  • Batch cooking, which allows reducing the number of times the oven is turned on.
  • The airtightness of the oven, which plays an important role in retaining heat and reducing energy consumption.

Thus, awareness of electricity consumption by household appliances, as well as adherence to energy independence rules, can help avoid serious problems with power supply in January 2026.

“Effective use of household appliances, such as electric ovens, becomes a necessity for maintaining the stability of the energy system.” - Energy Expert

In conditions where the energy security of the country may be under threat, it is important for consumers to be aware of their energy consumption and follow recommendations that can reduce the load on the power grid. Adapting to new conditions and responsible energy consumption can become key factors in overcoming the energy challenges faced by the country.
