Sequel to 'The Devil Wears Prada' Scores Big at the Box Office

Earning $233 million globally in its opening weekend, the follow-up to the iconic fashion film has proven a major crowd-pleaser. In the U.S. and Canada alone, ticket sales reached $77 million—surpassing Disney's own expectations of $75–80 million. Analysts at BoxOffice Pro had been even more bullish, forecasting around $100 million.

This sequel's launch outperformed the original's debut by 2.8%. The first film wrapped its theatrical run with a total of $327 million. Interestingly, streaming viewership of the original surged by 428% during March and April, signaling growing franchise excitement. Female viewers—traditionally the core demographic—made up 76% of all attendees.

Plot and Returning Cast

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt reprise their roles in the sequel. The story tackles modern media industry realities, with Andy Sachs returning to high fashion and Miranda preparing for retirement. Meanwhile, Emily Charlton takes the helm at a leading luxury brand.

“The sequel to the cult classic 'The Devil Wears Prada' has delivered one of the year's strongest openings,” experts note.

In Italy, the film posted the fourth-highest opening in the country's history, underscoring its international appeal. According to analytics firm Comscore, Walt Disney Co. saw $77 million in ticket sales from U.S. and Canadian theaters alone.

The sequel's strong start suggests the franchise continues to resonate with audiences, especially women, who remain its primary fan base. The growing interest in the first film on streaming platforms may also boost the original's popularity further, attracting new viewers to the franchise. This could encourage Disney to invest more in expanding the brand in the future.
