Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems and Special Operations Forces Strike Russia’s Syzran Refinery Overnight

Безпілотники України та спецпідрозділи завдали удару по нафтопереробному заводу в російському Сизрані вночі.

Attack on the Syzran Oil Refinery

On the night of May 21, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) and the Special Operations Forces (SOF) jointly targeted the Syzran oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region. The strike triggered a large-scale fire at the facility. Operators from the 1st Separate Center and the 413th Raid Regiment, together with SOF units, carried out the operation. This attack is part of a broader pattern of Ukrainian long-range strikes aimed at disrupting Russian energy infrastructure.

About the Syzran Refinery

The Syzran refinery is a key component of Rosneft’s Samara refining hub. It produces gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation fuel. The plant processes between 7 and 8.9 million tons of crude oil annually. FP-1 drones were used in the attack.

Officials from the SOF and USF confirmed the strike.

“The Special Operations Forces and the USF hit the Syzran refinery,” reported Denys Shtilierman.
He also noted that Deep-strike SOF units successfully completed their mission:
“The Deep-strike SOF units struck the Syzran oil refinery.”

This attack on the Syzran refinery underscores the ongoing conflict and the use of advanced technology in warfare. Strikes on critical infrastructure can significantly impact Russia’s energy sector, particularly fuel supplies. It also highlights the continued activity of Ukrainian forces in conducting strategic operations on enemy territory.

The recent strike on the Syzran refinery is not an isolated incident; it follows a series of targeted attacks on Russian energy facilities. For instance, just days prior, Ukrainian forces launched coordinated strikes on another oil refinery in Kstovo and the Nevinnomyssky Azot chemical plant, further emphasizing the strategic focus on crippling Russia's energy infrastructure.
