Crimea’s Main Power Switch Cut by Ukrainian Drone Forces

Удар дронів України призвів до зупинки постачання електроенергії в Криму.

Strike on Crimea’s Energy Infrastructure

On July 8, the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) targeted a critical energy supply point connecting occupied Crimea to mainland Russia. The attack hit five electrical substations, a training ground, and three radar stations. Specifically, USF drones struck the PP-2 'Crimea' transition point, a key hub that receives underwater cables from the 'Kuban–Crimea' energy bridge and converts them to overhead power lines. This 14.5-kilometer bridge consists of four submarine cable lines running from the mainland.

Between July 1 and July 8, USF drones have already struck 50 energy nodes in Crimea and the southern occupied territories. Targets included:

  • the 'Nyzhniohirsk', 'Pump Station 3', and 'Novotroitske' substations in Crimea;
  • 'Kalynove' and 'Troitske' in the Luhansk region;
  • P-18 and 'Parol-4' radar stations in the Donetsk region;
  • a repair base of Russia’s 27th Motor Rifle Brigade in the Luhansk region;
  • the 'Gvardiysky' training ground in the Kherson region.

In just the past night, USF pilots struck 53 military targets. All strikes were coordinated by the newly established Deep Strike Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces. As Robert 'Madyar' Brovdi stated:

'The Crimean switch is off: on July 8, we hit the key entry point for electricity from Russia into Crimea, 5 electrical substations, a training ground, and three radar stations.' Robert 'Madyar' Brovdi

He added: 'The worms won’t avoid a deep and total blackout—so it will happen.' Brovdi expressed optimism, asserting: 'We will stand firm. Moscow will fall. We will feed and rebuild Crimea.'

These strikes on Crimea’s energy infrastructure mark a significant step in Ukraine’s efforts to weaken Russia’s military capabilities in the occupied territories. Disabling key power nodes could increase challenges in electricity supply, affecting both military and civilian facilities. Such actions also reflect a shift in warfare tactics, emphasizing precision strikes on critical enemy assets, which could substantially alter the regional balance of power.

The recent drone strikes on Crimea's energy infrastructure are part of a broader strategy by Ukrainian forces to disrupt Russian military operations in the region. In a related incident, Ukrainian forces targeted a strategic bridge and a command post overnight, further showcasing their commitment to undermining Russian logistics and communication lines.
