Ukrainian Forces Strike Key Russian Facilities Including Ukhta Refinery and Yandex Data Center on October 9 Overnight

Вночі 9 жовтня українські війська атакували стратегічні об'єкти противника, завдавши удару по важливим російським інфраструктурним об'єктам.

Targeted Strikes on Critical Infrastructure in Russia

During the night of October 9, Ukrainian defense forces launched attacks on several vital sites within Russian territory. The targets included:

  • The Ukhta Oil Refinery in the Komi Republic
  • Yandex's data center near Kaluga
  • The Redkino Research Plant in Tver Oblast
  • An oil storage facility near Belgorod

The Ukhta refinery, operated under Lukoil and situated roughly 1,700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, has an annual processing capacity of approximately 4.2 million tons of crude oil. It produces various petroleum products such as automotive gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, and vacuum gasoil.

Yandex confirmed that its data center near Kaluga, about 290 kilometers from Ukraine, sustained damage from the attacks. The company warned that some services might experience disruptions.

“The full extent of the damage is currently being assessed. Emergency responders and company specialists are on-site. No injuries have been reported, and ensuring people's safety remains our top priority,” Yandex stated.

Impact on Other Facilities

The Redkino Research Plant in Tver Oblast, which manufactures specialized fuel components like Decilin-M for Kh-55 and Kh-101 cruise missiles, as well as additives for diesel and aviation kerosene, was also targeted. Vitaly Korolyov, head of Tver region, confirmed a fire at the plant, noting that staff were safely evacuated to shelters and no casualties occurred. The fire has since been extinguished. This facility has previously faced attacks in 2023, 2024, and reportedly as recently as February 2026, according to monitoring sources.

The oil depot near Belgorod was likewise struck. Air defense activity and explosions were reported overnight in the city. NASA FIRMS detected a fire at the oil storage site near the settlement of Stroitel, north of Belgorod. Explosions were also heard in the Moscow region and in the occupied areas of Luhansk.

Authorities report that the situations at all affected locations remain under control.

“Dear residents of Ukhta, please remain calm and avoid panic! The situation is being managed,” urged Marina Meteleva in a public address.

These coordinated strikes against critical Russian infrastructure represent a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. By targeting essential industrial and military-related facilities, Ukrainian forces aim to undermine Russia’s operational capabilities. The reassurances from regional Russian officials seek to maintain public order amid these challenging circumstances. However, such attacks may further intensify tensions and complicate prospects for regional stability.

As the situation continues to evolve, it's important to note that similar targeted strikes have recently occurred, including an attack on the Ilsky Refinery and the Pantsir-S2 system. These operations highlight the ongoing strategic focus of Ukrainian forces on critical infrastructure within Russia.
