Defense forces attacked oil refinery in Kirishi, airfield in Yeysk and drone storage in Millerovo

Сили оборони завдали удару по нафтопереробному заводу в Кіріші, а також по летовищу в Єйську та складу дронів у Міллерові.

Attacks on Important Targets in Russia

On the night of August 30, the Defense Forces of Ukraine attacked a number of important targets in Russia. In particular, the following were attacked:

  • the Kirishi oil refinery in the Leningrad region;
  • the storage, preparation, and launch site for strike drones in Millerovo in the Rostov region;
  • the Yeysk airfield in the Krasnodar region.

Fires broke out at all targets, and the extent of the damage is currently being assessed. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed these attacks.

Importance of the Targets

The Kirishi oil refinery, located in Kirishi, is the second largest refinery in Russia and the largest in the northwest of the country. Its capacity is about 20 million tons of oil per year, and the refinery also produces motor fuels, aviation fuel, diesel fuel, and other petroleum products. It is important to note that the Kirishi enterprise is involved in meeting the needs of the Russian Armed Forces.

Additionally, a strike was made at the storage, preparation, and launch site for strike drones in Millerovo in the Rostov region, which also resulted in a fire. In Yeysk, Krasnodar region, the attack struck the Yeysk airfield, which also experienced a fire. The extent of the damage at the airfield is currently being assessed.

These events continued the attacks that took place earlier: on the night of August 29, drones targeted the Leningrad region, where the Kirishi refinery is located, as well as the city of Yeysk, where a fire and a secondary detonation occurred at the airfield during the attack.

Attacks on strategic targets in Russia indicate an escalation of the conflict and highlight the importance of such targets for military needs. The destruction or damage of infrastructure related to military resources can significantly affect the capabilities of the Russian armed forces to conduct operations. These events also reflect the continuation of active hostilities between Ukraine and Russia, which have significant implications for regional security and global politics.

The recent strikes on key facilities in Russia are part of a broader strategy targeting vital military infrastructure. This follows similar attacks, such as the recent offensive on the Saratov refinery and Engels airfield, which underscores the ongoing escalation in the conflict.
