Dnipropetrovsk Region Still Sees Active Combat Despite Ukraine's Defense Forces Reclaiming 26 Settlements

Попри відновлення контролю над 26 населеними пунктами, в Дніпропетровській області тривають запеклі бойові дії.

This assessment draws on the latest reporting from Ukraine's General Staff and the DeepState monitoring service. The figures are current as of the time of reporting.

Dnipropetrovsk Region: Fighting Still Underway

Active hostilities continue in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The General Staff says the oblast has not been fully brought back under Ukrainian control, and Russian forces still occupy the area around the settlement of Dachne. The situation in this sector is described as tense.

The Oleksandrivka Axis Offensive

An offensive operation on the Oleksandrivka axis has been running since January. Within its framework, 26 settlements in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions have been liberated. President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that 745 square kilometers of territory have been returned to Ukrainian control. The operation took place in two stages: the first began on January 29 and secured about 450 square kilometers, while the second began on May 5 and added roughly 490 square kilometers, with 12 more settlements freed.

DeepState lists the following settlements as liberated:

  • Zelenyi Hai
  • Novokhatske
  • Hrushivske
  • Tolstoi
  • Zirka
  • Yalta
  • Piddubne
  • Myrne
  • Voskresenka
  • Sichneve
  • Vorone
  • Ternove
  • Berezove
  • Stepove
  • Kalynivske
  • Pryvillia
  • Zlahoda
  • Rybne
  • Krasnohirske

In addition, occupying forces were pushed back from Novopavlivka, Novheorhiivka, Novomykolaivka, Novohryhorivka, Zaporizke, and Pryvilne.

Russian forces have suffered major losses in the process: at least 9,550 troops killed and more than 6,600 wounded. Ukrainian forces have also increased the prisoner-of-war exchange fund.

'Control over the Dnipropetrovsk region has not yet been fully restored. The area around Dachne remains under occupation. Combat operations are ongoing,' the General Staff said.

The Dnipropetrovsk region remains a difficult part of the front, with active fighting and only partial control by Ukrainian forces. Even after the liberation of large areas, occupying forces still hold key positions, complicating any attempt to restore full control. The continued push on the Oleksandrivka axis underscores Ukraine's strategic effort to reclaim territory and weaken the enemy's position.

As the situation in the Dnipropetrovsk region remains precarious, it is essential to understand the broader context of recent military operations. The recent completion of the Oleksandrivka offensive has seen significant territorial gains, with Ukrainian forces reclaiming 745 square kilometers. This operation not only highlights the ongoing efforts to restore control but also underlines the challenges that still lie ahead.
