Financial Transparency Scandal Engulfs 'Hospitallers' Medical Battalion

Скандал фінансової непрозорості охоплює медичний батальйон «Госпітальєри».

Medical Battalion 'Hospitallers' Faces Financial Scrutiny

The volunteer medical battalion 'Hospitallers,' led by MP Yana Zinkevych of the 'European Solidarity' party, is embroiled in controversy over the alleged non-transparent use of donated funds. According to the news site 'Glavcom,' a debate erupted on the social network 'X' concerning two separate fundraising accounts: one for the foundation and another belonging personally to Zinkevych. Users also identified two additional 'jars' for tactical medicine and personnel rotations, raising further questions about financial management.

Yana Zinkevych's Response to Allegations

Prominent journalist Olga Khudetska highlighted the issue, noting the discovery of several related legal entities, including one in the United Kingdom. Social media users also observed that the addresses for cryptocurrency wallets for donations temporarily disappeared from the battalion's website. They speculate that approximately $210,000 may have been withdrawn from these wallets without any published reports.

In response to the accusations, Yana Zinkevych stated that the 'Hospitallers' team is preparing financial reports and will publish the data soon. She explained that some documents may have been lost following a Russian artillery strike on the battalion's base in Pavlohrad.

"We are currently systematizing financial data to prepare a consolidated report. The work is progressing slower than we would like, partly because we have had to reconstruct some documents after our base in Pavlohrad was destroyed," said Yana Zinkevych.

Yana Zinkevych, elected to the Verkhovna Rada in the July 2019 parliamentary elections, serves as Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on National Health, Medical Care, and Health Insurance in the 9th convocation. She also chairs the subcommittee on military medicine and a special commission on veterans' affairs. In a related development, the State Bureau of Investigation and the National Police uncovered a scheme for illegal mobilization, adding context to the current allegations against the 'Hospitallers' battalion. This scandal underscores the intense public and official scrutiny facing volunteer organizations in Ukraine.

The situation surrounding the 'Hospitallers' battalion highlights the critical importance of transparency in the use of charitable donations, especially during wartime when medical aid is vital. Zinkevych's response and the delay in financial reporting may raise further public questions about trust in volunteer organizations. Subsequent investigations could impact not only the reputation of the 'Hospitallers' but also the political career of its leader. It is essential that all actions are thoroughly documented to prevent manipulation by political opponents.
