From February 24, 2022, to December 1, 2025, over 121,000 men with Ukrainian citizenship crossed the border from the Republic of Belarus to Poland. Most of them were of conscription age. This is reported by InPoland.
According to the Polish Border Guard, over 80,000 people, or 66.7%, were aged between 18 and 60 years. This group of men is subject to Ukraine's mobilization legislation during martial law.
Ukrainian men in Poland: statistics of crossings through Belarus
The largest flow of men of conscription age was recorded in 2022 and 2024. At that time, through the Belarusian route, almost 23,000 and about 24,000 people respectively reached Poland.
In 2023 and 2025, this figure was lower but stable:
- approximately 17,000 men crossed the border from Belarus each year;
- the majority were Ukrainian citizens aged between 18 and 60 years.
These figures were released in official responses to inquiries from journalists from “Slidstvo.Info” and the “Belarusian Investigative Center”.
Men fleeing Ukraine: what is happening at the border
According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in 2025, the Belarusian route came among the top five for the number of detained military conscripts attempting to leave the country illegally. In this area of the border, Ukrainian border guards detained 1,424 men, which is 336% more than in 2024.
Journalists have also documented instances of illegal border crossings through Belarus. According to their data, illegal transporters charge up to 16,000 US dollars for such services for two people. After arriving in Poland, some Ukrainians were interrogated by unidentified individuals in civilian clothes, who inquired about the movement of Ukrainian military equipment and the consequences of Russian missile and drone strikes.
