National 'Health Screening 40+' Program Launched
A new national initiative, the 'Health Screening 40+' program, now offers free comprehensive medical check-ups for Ukrainian citizens aged 40 and above, with the state covering the costs. The first thousand participants have already completed their screenings. These initial participants were residents from various regions of the country who turned 40 or older this year. All of these first participants were January birthday celebrants who received a notification about accessing the service in the 'Diia' app 30 days after their birth date.
How the Program Works and Its Benefits
Upon application, the state provides 2,000 hryvnias to cover the cost of the screening. Currently, 1,500 healthcare facilities across the country are ready to provide these services. The program is designed for the early detection of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and mental health issues. Participants gain crucial insights into their health and undergo a comprehensive health assessment that includes:
- A physical examination (measuring blood pressure, heart rate, weight, height, waist circumference, etc.)
- A lifestyle questionnaire
- Symptom and risk factor identification
- Laboratory tests to evaluate heart, vascular, and kidney function
"Congratulations! The 'Health Screening' service is available to you. Take care of your health in advance - notification in the Diia app," — program representatives.
The launch of the 'Health Screening 40+' program marks a significant step toward improving public health in Ukraine by enabling the detection of serious illnesses at early stages. Given that cardiovascular disease and diabetes are prevalent health concerns in the country, this initiative has the potential to reduce health risks and enhance the quality of life for older adults. This type of preventative care program is common in many developed nations to manage public health costs and outcomes. Importantly, state funding ensures these vital check-ups are accessible to a broad segment of the population.
