Investigation into the boy's death
The investigation into the death of a seven-year-old boy at a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities is ongoing in Transcarpathia. According to reports, the boy died on December 4, 2025, due to inadequate medical care. The child, who was born in May 2018, had been living in the facility since April 2025, as he was previously removed from his family due to neglect.
Prior to April 2025, the boy lived with his mother in Mukachevo and required special care and medical supervision. The boy's family was registered with social services. From April to November 2025, he was in the rehabilitation center, where, according to investigators, he did not receive proper medical assistance.
Circumstances of the tragedy
At the time of his death, the boy weighed only 11 kilograms. In light of these circumstances, the pediatrician has been informed of suspicion of improper performance of duties. Additionally, the boy's mother has also been informed of the suspicion of gross neglect of parental responsibilities. The investigation is currently establishing all the circumstances of the tragedy.
This tragedy highlights serious problems in the system of care for children with disabilities in Ukraine, where insufficient attention to medical needs can lead to fatal consequences. The investigation may become an important step in improving state standards and practices in rehabilitation facilities, as well as increasing the accountability of social services for the care of vulnerable populations.
