Police Investigate Medical Negligence After Patient Dies Following Surgery at Chernihiv Private Clinic

Правоохоронці розслідують обставини смерті пацієнта після операції в приватній клініці Чернігова.

Woman Dies Following Surgery at Chernihiv Clinic

A 42-year-old woman has died after undergoing an aesthetic surgery procedure at a private medical center in Chernihiv. The Chernihiv Regional Police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident, citing the medical staff's alleged failure to properly perform their professional duties.

The patient's death is directly attributed to this medical negligence. On February 21, law enforcement received information that the woman was transported in critical condition to a city hospital. She had been transferred there while unconscious immediately after her operation at the private clinic and died shortly afterward.

Investigation and Potential Consequences

The investigation is being conducted under Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. As part of the inquiry, a series of forensic examinations have been ordered to clarify the circumstances of the incident and determine the precise cause of death. Officers from the Chernihiv District Police Department continue to work on the case.

This tragedy underscores the critical importance of adhering to strict medical standards, particularly in the field of aesthetic surgery where patient risks can be significant. Cosmetic surgery tourism has grown in parts of Eastern Europe, making regulatory oversight a pressing issue. The police investigation could not only clarify the details of this specific case but also prompt a review of how private medical facilities in Ukraine are regulated, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.
