Official Cause of Woman's Death in Kyiv Clarified
Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) has officially refuted claims that a woman recently died from freezing inside her apartment. According to the official forensic medical examination, the cause of death was heart failure resulting from chronic ischemic heart disease. The KCSA has urged media representatives and social media users to rely on verified sources and refrain from spreading unverified information.
Widespread Utility Failures Following Major Attack
The woman's death occurred against the backdrop of a massive attack on January 24, 2026, which caused severe utility disruptions across the capital. The Desnianskyi district was at the epicenter of this crisis, where approximately 600 high-rise buildings in the Troieshchyna area were left without electricity, water supply, and heating. This infrastructure damage is part of a wider pattern of strain on Kyiv's systems following repeated attacks. Current temperatures in the city are around zero degrees Celsius, with meteorologists forecasting a sharp cold snap for the coming weekend.
Maksym Bakhmatov, head of the Desnianskyi District State Administration, also reported ongoing heating issues in the Teremky neighborhood, where several apartment buildings have had no heating since January 9. Furthermore, the prolonged cold spell has led to damage in water supply and sewage pipes. In response, city authorities are deploying additional 24/7 heating shelters to support residents.
The situation with public utilities in Kyiv requires urgent resolution, especially given the low temperatures. The lack of heating and electricity in many districts poses serious health risks to residents during the winter period. City authorities and responsible agencies must take measures to restore services and ensure public safety during this critical time.
