Visit of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine
The Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, visited the military in the Zaporizhzhia direction and checked the construction of fortifications. According to the plans, the completion of the construction of strongholds and barriers is scheduled for 2025. As part of these works, the creation of:
- 255 km of non-explosive barriers;
- 340 km of anti-tank ditches;
- over 2.1 km of the 'Yegoza' barrier line;
- 277 km of low-profile obstacle MPP.
Major General Oleksandr Yakovets was the speaker during the inspection. Denys Shmyhal noted that the construction pace is high and tasked to accelerate the arrangement of fortifications in 2026.
Efforts to strengthen defence capability
This initiative is part of Ukraine's overall efforts to strengthen its defense capability in the east of the country, where active hostilities continue. The construction of fortification structures in the Zaporizhzhia direction aims to ensure the safety of military personnel and civilians, as well as enhance the resilience of defense under modern threats.
The completion of all planned works in 2025 could significantly impact the situation in the region and the strategy of the further actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
