Snow above human height: traffic restored in Prykarpattia after heavy snowdrifts
Heavy snowfall in Ivano-Frankivsk region has led to the formation of snowdrifts on the R-24 highway, some of which exceed the height of an adult. Traffic restrictions for vehicles on the section of the road from 134 to 170 km were in effect since January 10, 2026, but by the evening of the same day, at 22:00, traffic for all types of vehicles was restored.
According to information, on certain sections of the R-24 highway, the height of the snow cover indeed reached significant levels. As Oleksii Biloshytsky stated,
“In places, the snow is indeed above human height”. This complicated movement and required taking measures to ensure road safety. However, due to improving weather conditions, a decision was made to restore traffic.
Weather conditions in the region
At the same time, the region is experiencing different weather. The Maniavskyi waterfall in Ivano-Frankivsk region has frozen, indicating severe frosts. The weather conditions in Lviv region are expected to deteriorate, and in Ukraine as a whole, frosty and windy weather with possible snowfalls continues.
Thus, the situation in Prykarpattia has improved, but residents of the region should remain cautious and attentive while moving, considering potential difficulties due to winter weather conditions.
The restoration of traffic on the R-24 highway is a positive signal for drivers and residents of the region, who will be able to move freely. However, given the predicted frosts and possible new snowfalls, it is important to exercise caution on the roads. Weather conditions in Ukraine remain unstable, so drivers should be prepared for possible complications and follow safety rules during winter trips.
