Snowfall in Ukraine: consequences and restrictions
Snowfall in Ukraine has led to difficulties on the roads, causing numerous traffic accidents and restrictions on the highways. On January 8, 2026, 319 calls regarding traffic accidents were recorded, of which 47 involved injuries. In Kyiv, despite 40 calls, no injuries were reported.
Traffic restrictions on highways
Traffic restrictions are observed on several important highways. In particular, on the M-06 Kyiv – Chop highway, restrictions have been introduced in the Zhytomyr region on the section km 152+480 – km 258+513, as well as in the Lviv region on the section 432+877 – 487+000. In addition, heavy transport is restricted in Kyiv, Volyn, Lviv, and Ternopil regions.
Drivers are urged to refrain from long-distance trips unless absolutely necessary due to severe weather conditions. These measures are being taken to ensure safety on the roads as the weather worsens. The situation with traffic remains under control, and relevant services are working to eliminate the consequences of the bad weather.
The snowfall in Ukraine has proven to be a serious test for the road infrastructure, threatening the safety of drivers and passengers. The authorities urge citizens to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary trips to reduce the burden on response services in extreme weather conditions.
Continuation of such weather phenomena may require additional measures to maintain safety on the roads.
