Snowfall paralyzed Western Ukraine

On January 8, 2023, heavy snow and icy conditions were observed in the western regions of Ukraine, leading to a difficult situation on the roads and paralyzing transportation. In Lviv, authorities are asking residents to limit car trips to avoid complications on the roads.

Actions of rescuers

On the Kyiv-Chop highway, rescuers are actively assisting cars stuck in snowdrifts. In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, since 8:00, movement restrictions for heavy vehicles have been introduced on the section of the R-21 Dolyna-Khust highway. However, at 14:21, the restrictions for freight transport on this section were lifted, indicating an improvement in the situation.

In Rivne, rescuers also demonstrated their readiness for emergencies by carrying a patient with a stroke to an ambulance. In the Zhytomyr region, rescuers freed a bus with 15 passengers that had gotten trapped in the snow.

  • Throughout Ukraine, 185 traffic accidents occurred due to the bad weather, highlighting the danger faced by drivers.

“A request to residents. If possible, please do not use private cars. Postpone meetings, inform your manager that you will be late.”

Andriy Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv
