The new head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory (UINP) Alexander Alferov expressed his opinion on the need to adopt a law on national memory. He believes that such a law should have been introduced in the 1990s and now needs to be refined after its first reading in the Verkhovna Rada.

The essence of the draft law

The proposed law aims to define the main concepts, principles, and tasks of state policy on national memory. Amendments to existing laws are also planned to adapt them to the new provisions. Alexander Alferov emphasized the importance of adopting this law long before the current moment and further improving its text is planned.

“This law should determine what will be considered national memory, how it should be controlled and promoted”

he noted.

The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory actively supports the establishment of a legislative framework for Ukraine’s national memory, which will help define and preserve the country’s national historical heritage.
