A Tribute to Vitaliy Nevinskyi
Vitaliy Ihorovych Nevinskyi, a captain in Ukraine's Armed Forces who received the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously in 2023, would have turned 30 on August 26, 2023. He was killed in action on December 15, 2022, near the settlement of Pidhorodne in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk Oblast. His story reflects the heavy cost borne by Ukraine's military during the full-scale war.
Born on August 26, 1996, in the settlement of Husiatyn, now part of Chortkiv Raion in Ternopil Oblast, Nevinskyi was a soldier and a participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war. In his final role, he commanded a company defending positions inside apartment buildings on the outskirts of Bakhmut. His unit fought for days under ceaseless enemy assaults and shelling, while facing severe shortages of ammunition and waves of tank, mortar, and artillery attacks.

Nevinskyi was laid to rest on December 23, 2022, in the city of Ternopil, where his memory continues to be honored.
