Today, Ukraine honors the memory of the victims of the Holodomors. Millions of Ukrainians died as a result of the genocide aimed at destroying our people. The violent confiscation of bread, the blockade of entire villages, the prohibition of leaving, repressions, and complete information isolation — all of this created conditions incompatible with life.
The crimes of the communist totalitarian regime were silenced for decades, but they remain forever in the Ukrainian memory. Today we once again resist a regime that seeks to break us and destroy us. Thousands of Ukrainians are forced to flee from the rockets, bombs, and drones of the occupier, but we continue the fight for the right to live in a free state, to preserve our culture, language, and historical truth.
Commemoration
Tragedies become possible when evil meets no resistance. Therefore, we must remember — and fight. We call on everyone to join the Nationwide Moment of Silence at 4:00 PM today, to honor the Ukrainians who were tortured by hunger.
After that, let us light a Candle of Memory in the window — at home or at work. Each flame is a sign of our mourning, resilience, and faith in life that triumphs over death. Eternal memory to the victims of the Holodomors.
Today, Ukraine remembers the victims of the Holodomors, a memory that remains an important step in preserving historical truth and the memory of the people. It also reminds us of the importance of fighting against any forms of totalitarianism and national memory.
